Brief: Redesign an existing English weekly, including the cover and two interior layout spreads.
I chose Mylapore Times, a community-focused newspaper, and reimagined its visual identity with a cleaner layout, modern typography, and improved hierarchy for better readability.
The goal was to create a balanced editorial design that feels contemporary and engaging, while retaining the paper’s local essence and familiar voice.

For this redesign, I drew inspiration from Mylapore, one of the oldest and most culturally significant neighborhoods in Chennai, India. Known for its rich heritage, traditional architecture, and vibrant festivals, Mylapore is home to the historic Kapaleeshwarar Temple, a central landmark dedicated to Lord Shiva.
The visual concept is anchored in the peacock, a symbol deeply tied to Mylapore’s identity. According to the Brahmanda Purana (an ancient Sanskrit text), Mylapore was once called Mayurapuri “Mayur” meaning peacock in Sanskrit based on the legend of Goddess Parvati, who is believed to have worshipped Lord Shiva here in the form of a peacock.
By weaving these cultural elements into the editorial design, the redesigned Mylapore Times connects the neighborhood’s historical roots with a modern, engaging aesthetic blending heritage with clarity and accessibility for today’s readers.
